One of the ways in which Greece reminds us of New Mexico is the many small churches to be found in the countryside.
The churches are slowly being restored, and feature marvelous frescoes.

On Aegina, in the middle ages, the villagers moved from the seaside into the mountains where they were hidden from pirates. Apparently, the Byzantine church has a different saint for every day, and the village had a different church for every saint. Scores of these small chapels are all that remain of this village. Rena led us on a lovely hike on this hillside.
