Figure of an Amazon in the archaeological museum in Corinth.
The museum's web site reports that in 1990 it suffered a robbery, "one of the largest, if not the largest theft of antiquities from a Greek museum." The objects were finally recovered in April 2001 (in Miami!) and beginning 1 Dec 2001 are on exhibit. Included in the catalog of stolen objects is the "head of an Amazon wearing a helmet. 5th century BC." We hope this means that this Amazon has been made whole and that seekers may now observe an Amazon in full regalia. |
