Malta is a tiny country of tiny islands in the middle of the Mediterranean. Because of its location (and excellent harbors), it has been occupied by many peoples, starting with Sicilians who came in about 5000 BCE.

It was a Phoenician colony for centuries, and the luzzu, traditional fishing boats, have changed little since. The most traditional of these have the protective eyes of Isis on their bows. (Photo by Lynnie)
