The spiral is a central motif of temple art. When Susan saw the image above in the archaeological museum -- and remembered all the snails she'd been trying to avoid tramping on, she suddenly realized the inspiration for this. (Of course, she wasn't the first to make this connection.)
To pair with this little museum piece, Susan wishes she had thought to take a close-up of one of the ubiquitous snails of Malta.
